A reminder today as last individual of another species passes on we are in the midst of a mass extinction. It’s not just the giant tortoise that has passed but thousands more species all recently and most at the hands of man. What we are facing is the process of a massextinction as we watch. The unprecedented threats of global warming, habitat loss and, predation from humans has caused collapse of a huge number of species. It’s been estimated that more than 80 percent of earths species are yet uncharacteristic, and many of them will vanish before anything is known about them. How many undiscovered compounds are we losing every day as species die off? Geologists combine this with the vast changes we have recently wrought on the face of the earth to describe a new epoch the Anthropocene.
Like it or not its humans who rule the block. It’s up to us to decide if we want to trash it or not and how many of our neighbors we will let stay.
